Sleep is often the first thing that falls by the wayside when college students are under high stress. However, skimping on sleep can be detrimental to one's health. Sleep gives the brain a chance to recharge and allows cells to repair themselves. When one is deprived of sleep, the brain cannot function as well, so while pulling an all-nighter may seem like the only way to get any work done; it will only have negative effects the next day. In a crunch for time, even napping for an hour can help refocus the brain.
Eating processed foods and vending machine snacks can decrease a person's energy. Instead, opt for some fruits, vegetables and whole grains. These good carbohydrates to energize the body and decrease stress levels.
Schedule time to rewind and relax in a healthy way. Even if it doesn't sound appealing, going for a 20 minute jog can revitalize the body while providing a necessary break from studying. Additionally, it can be easy for a college student to set too high of expectations, but it's important to remember that becoming overworked will only hurt academic performance in the long run.
